First Visit

First Visit

At Contemporary Oncology we wish you to have the most benefit of your first visit as well as feel comfortable and confident about your care. It is for this reason that we offer the following explanations and checklists that will assist you in preparing for your visit.

Visit Scenario

  • Your Oncologist

The oncologist you have asked to see at this fist visit will remain your attending physician throughout your engagement with us.

  • Your Care Team

Medical care is a team effort and at Contemporty Oncology we provide this care through multi-member team of different specialties, all dedicated to your wellbeing. On your visit you will meet:

    • Patient Service Staff whose job is to look after you during your visit. They will help you register and create your medical record.
    • Internists and Associate Physicians who will see you before meeting the oncologist to take your medical history.
    • Nurses and patient advocates who prescribe medicine and conduct patient education where necessary.
    • Practice Administrator who will handle any practical questions you may have about insurance and financial issues.
  • Length of the visit

Our oncologists take their time to conduct the initial consultation. Usually this takes about an hour but may take longer, so please plan your travel time accordingly.

  • Additional Tests and Scans

Depending on the case, your oncologist may request additional tests or scans to confirm and guide the medical decisions. These can be conducted in a hospital or Laboratory of your choice or you can ask your doctor for advice.

Items to Bring

During your first visit your oncologist will need to assess your health in general and understand the history of your condition in detail. Therefore please bring with you all the material and information that will help us obtain such a complete medical history and thus be in a better position to address your medical problem. The following are the main items:

  • Surgical Report if any
  • Histological examination, Pathologist Report for the current and other older, possibly unrelated, surgery
  • Record of all previous treatments for your disease if applicable
  • Recent imaging exams (CT, MRI, PET, Ultrasound, etc.)
  • Recent blood tests
  • Whatever else you think will help the doctor that will examine you
  • Other tests even if they seem irrelevant to the disease (e.g. Cardiac Echo)
