Born in Kalamata in 1964, Dr Lambropoulos excelled in his medical education at the Medical School of the National University of Athens, graduating with Honors in 1988. After doing his military service at the 251 General Air Force Hospital in Athens he completed his social service in primary care at rural Messinia. He continued his Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Illinois, Chicago from 1992 until 1995.
He then continued his medical education in 1998 with a Fellowship in Hematology – Oncology and Transplantation in the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis and in 1999 further specialized with a second Fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at the Virginia Commonwealth University in conjunction with the Massey Cancer Center.

Dr Lambropoulos has been awarded from various institutions for his academic performance but also his volunteering services. Some of these awards are the Scientific Resident of the year from the University of Illinois, Chicago and the Award for Voluntary Work in May 2007 from the University of Addis Abeba, Ethiopia. He is fluent in Greek, English and French.
