Testicular Cancer

Testicular Cancer

Definition
Testicular cancer accounts for only 1% of cancer cases in men worldwide but is the most common cancer that can occur between the ages of 20 and 40. One cause of testicular cancer appears to be cryptorchidism, which is the condition in which the testicles do not descend to the scrotum before birth.

Symptoms

  • Tangible painless tumor (the most common symptom)
  • Persistent pain in the testicle with or without swelling
  • Rarely back pain or gynecomastia

Diagnosis

  • Clinical examination especially palpation
  • Ultrasound
  • Special blood tests
  • Surgical removal of the entire testicle with (needle biopsy is not indicated)

Therapy

  • Surgical removal of the testicle (in some cases lymph nodes are also removed)
  • Chemotherapy (as adjunctive therapy or in case of metastases)
  • Radiotherapy

We must emphasize that in this type of cancer the cure levels are very high at all stages.
